oil filled radiator heater choices
There is a wide variety of oil filled radiators on the market today. From the manufacturers who produce them, the features that the have and of course the cost.
All oil filled radiators contain oil however they are not actually powered by burning oil. Instead they require an electric power source. The oil, rather than being fuel, is in effect a component. Electrical heating elements heat up the oil which then transmits its heat into the metal fins of the radiator. There are many benefits to this style of heater which I shall discuss below.
How to choose an oil filled radiator heater
Deciding to buy one of these portable heaters is not the biggest purchasing decision you may make this year for your household. However the cost can range from about $50 to $150 depending on the maker and features you are after.
The more expensive units have digital thermostats whereas cheaper models often just have a dial that controls the cut off temperature. With this it may be difficult to know exactly what temperature you are setting the thermostat control to. On the other hand, while I have had no difficulty with a digital controller there appear to be those on internet forums reporting problems with theirs.
You may also want to think about how you plan on using your heater. For example, if you want to move from room to room, a portable radiator with wheels may be the best option. However to use it in a fixed location, a more sturdy unit may be a better choice.
Oil filled radiator heater benefits
Using these kinds of heating appliances is safer for home and family than other kinds of portable heaters. For example they are much less of a fire risk than electrical halogen lamps whose heating elements are exposed. Unlike gas powered stoves, they do not give off potentially harmful fumes. So safety is a positive feature common to all oil filled radiators. A further safety feature is that should one of these radiators be knocked over the power should automatically cut out.
Once the oil inside becomes hot, they give off heat slowly so it may be possible to avoid huge electricity bills.
Further they are great as portable heaters because many of models, e.g. delonghi oil filled radiators have wheels that are attached to the base of the unit making it easy to move around. This means it is easy to take it from room to room.
Finally, the cost to buy oil filled radiator heaters is fairly cheap. Even though there are running costs associated with using them they can still be considered economical heating options for the the winter months.
