Power Racks

When it comes to strength training there are a few things we need to be careful of if we are training at home. A home gym is certainly a more and more popular option and we can quickly recoup the expense of this as we no longer need a gym membership. One of the most purchased options for home training is for cheap power racks.

The benefits of a good power rack are innumerable. Let’s take a look at a few:

With a power rack we can now train alone in complete safety. We have the ability to go to true negative failure during our high intensity workouts as we have a system in place to catch the bar from our tired and exhausted hands.

Even if we drop a bar it will be caught and never cause us injury or damage the floor. This is the problem with training alone, especially for exercises like squats or bench press. To get the most from our sets we need to go to failure. But we can’t do this unless we have a power rack. We would otherwise have to keep something in reserve to push the bar back up on to a conventional rack. This means we are not getting maximum benefit from our sets.

But with a power rack we can go all out. We can begin a set of squats of the high pins. Step back and with a straight back pump out a full set on maximum intensity. And when we hit rock bottom and can’t move an inch we can simply leave the bar on the low rack and with a wobble step out. A power rack is such an important part of home training that it cannot be over stated how important it is for training alone in total safety.
